Millenium Emlekmu -The Millennium Monument

The Millenium emlekmu raising up in Hosok tere was made by the architect Albert Schickedanz and the sculptur Gyorgy Zala. The monument was made between 1896 and 1929, to celebrate the recurrence of the conquer of the country by the first Magyar tribes in 896.

A thousand years later, in 1896, a celebratory exhibition was held in the Heroes’ Square, ordered by the Augsburg Family to leave an endless mark of their presence in the country.

The central column of the monument is 36 mt high, with the Archangel Gabriel on top, and is surrounded by two colonnades in semicircle, inside of which are represented the main protagonists of the first millennium of Hungarian history. The seven figures in the middle represent each of the Magyar tribes who settled in the Carpathian basin.

The Country history continues with the statues on the colonnades, towered by sculptures symbolizing Work, Good, War, Peace, Wisdom, Glory. The statues also represent the most famous Hungarian kings, with the most meaningful moments of their lives and reigns.
